So...
For the past 5 or so years, I've felt a growing gap between writing advice being offered that's more applicable to beginning writers (people within the first 4ish years of their creative endeavours) vs people who had been writing for a long time (think 5-12 years), with more tailored to the former.
Write Or Get Off the Pot is an attempt to bridge that gap from someone with 12+ years of writing experience, years of creative fiction classes (one taught by a 12 times published author), developing fic and OG projects simultaneously, and with an indie publishing deal (debut is likely aimed for Spring 2025).
More than that, it's to hopefully give advice and character construction prompts you probably haven't heard elsewhere, such as:
- Consider what societal mythos in fantasy that your regions believe in (think the American Dream, or how they view their own country/city).
- Looking at lenses of queerness from an agender (nonbinary), aroace lens that aren't maybe as talked about
- The merits of asking "would my characters cannibalize someone and if so, why and who?" to get at the core of their dynamics, priorities, and moral horizon lines
- How think through various angles and implications of character choices
As well as whatever else comes up.
The youtube channel is in the link, and I have plans for it to double as a space, alongside Spotify, for a podcast. May not be weekly or every Saturday (perhaps every other?) but something along those lines.
If you have a youtube account, subscribing is much appreciated. If this sounds interesting, sending in questions here is also mightly appreciated / liking this post, and I'll blog about it here from time to time with relevant updates if Spotify > youtube is more your thing. If my debut — reincarnated unchosen one trying to reclaim her powers while also balancing complex found family dynamics / ending a war — sounds interesting, please check out the blog for it here (follows, likewise, are much appreciated).
Thank you for reading and checking it out if you're interested!
